The StairSteady is a simple mechanical handrail system that helps you keep using your own stairs safely and independently. A slim rail is fixed to the wall along the staircase, and a support handle runs along it: it glides when you push it forward, locks as soon as you put weight on it, and unlocks when you lift it to move on.
Because you hold the handle in front of you with both hands, you climb or descend at your own pace and can stop to rest whenever you need. It suits older people, anyone recovering from surgery or injury, and people with reduced strength or balance – and it keeps you active, rather than replacing your own movement as a stairlift does.
The handle glides when pushed and locks the moment downward weight is applied.
Hold the handle in front of you for a stable, balanced position on every step.
Stop and rest on the stairs whenever you need – there is no time limit.
At the top or bottom the handle folds neatly against the rail.
- SlidePush the handle forward – low-friction pads let it glide smoothly along the rail.
- LockPut your weight down on the handle – rubber brake pads grip the rail instantly and hold you steady.
- MoveLift the handle slightly, slide it to the next comfortable position and repeat, all the way to the top or bottom.
Installation
- SurveyWe check your staircase and measure the length of rail you need.
- FittingA trained installer cuts and fixes the rail to the wall – usually in under two hours, with no electrics or building work.
- Ready to useYou can start using it straight away; the installer shows you how to use it safely.

Fully mechanical – a one-off purchase that keeps working even during a power cut.
The rail sits close to the wall and leaves the stairs clear for everyone else, and also works as a handrail.
Encourages daily movement and strength instead of a passive ride.
