Mimos Baby Pillow

Protect your baby's head shape while they sleep.

Your baby sleeps on the back – the position paediatricians recommend. Mimos spreads the pressure on the soft skull, so the head does not flatten.

The problem

Safe back-sleeping has a hidden side effect.

In the first months a baby's skull is soft and grows fast. When it rests on the same spot for hours, it can flatten – plagiocephaly (on one side) or brachycephaly (at the back), also called flat head syndrome.

1 in 5 babies

had a significant flat head at 3 months in a Swedish study.

It happens fast

Especially in the first 3 months – often before parents notice.

It can affect the face

Ears or eyes out of line, or the forehead pushed forward on one side.

You should not have to choose between safe sleep and a nicely rounded head.

How it works

More contact area. Less pressure.

On a flat mattress, the whole weight of the head rests on one small spot. The Mimos cavity cradles the head and shares the weight – up to 4 times less pressure.

The results

Studied at a university – not just in a lab.

In a randomised study at the University of Gothenburg (Sweden), 79 infants aged 0–2 months were split into two groups. At about 3 months:

29%fully symmetrical head with Mimos
11%in the group without Mimos

Öhman A. Health 2014;6:1092-1098.

Randomised study – 2014

Asymmetry fell significantly in the Mimos group (p = 0.002), not in the control group (p = 0.96).

Pilot study – 2013

When head pressure was reduced, 47% had a fully symmetrical head, compared with 12% of the others.

Mimos Pillow
Safety

Safe sleep, the right way.

Always

  • Put your baby on the back to sleep.
  • Use Mimos under adult supervision.
  • Only with the original Mimos cover – no other fabric.
  • A new pillow for each baby.

Tummy time

  • A few minutes on the tummy, several times a day, while awake.
  • Builds neck and shoulder strength.
  • Limit time in car seats and bouncers.
  • Switch sides when feeding.
When to see a doctor: if you see a flat spot, if your baby always turns to the same side, or if one ear looks out of line, talk to your paediatrician or physiotherapist. Mimos does not treat the cause (e.g. torticollis), but it can be used during treatment.
FAQ

From what age?

From birth, even for premature babies (size XS). The manufacturer recommends it for babies aged 0–18 months.
